Heart Failure
Left-Sided Heart Failure
When the left side of the heart can no longer pump blood systemically, leading to a fluid buildup in the pulmonary veins that feed the left atrium.
Right-Sided Heart Failure
When the right side of the heart can no longer pump blood to the lungs for oxygenation, leading to a fluid buildup in the peripheral veins (e.g. pedal edema) that feed the right atrium.
